I. History
Since 1990 the association FUN&LEARN organises summer camps for Children. The founders were Reinhold MADRITSCH and Christof FINK. The first location was NEUSTIFT. In the following years the number of children increased rapidly from 60 to 150 per year. After 3 years there were summer camps in Neustift (Tirol), Reutte (Tirol), Zell am See (Salzburg) and Wagrain (Salzburg).
Since 1990 Christof FINK is the chairman of the association and since 1996 the only organiser and manager. In this time the following camps were organised: English camps, Computer camps, French Camp, Creativity Camp, Junior Camp, Jungle Camp.
Since 2009 there are only 2 English camps per year which take place in NEUSTIFT/ Stubaital.
In the last 25 years there were over 90 tutors from Austria, Germany, South Tyrol, Spain and native speakers from England, Scotland, Canada and USA.
In the last 30 years there were more than 2.000 kids from all parts of Austria, from Germany, Lichtenstein, Italy, Spain, Russia, Turkey, Czech Republic etc. who attended our camp.
In 2019 the NEW boarding school was built.

FUN&LEARN is a (small) institution that wants to combine “LEARNING” with “FUN” and positive experiences.

The main goal of the camps is that kids have FUN and positive experiences on the camp. They should feel great at the camp and at the end of it they should be excited about the tutors and the camp.
It is important to take the kids seriously. Hence it should be clear that any shouting, screaming, beating of a tutor cannot and will not be tolerated.
It is the duty of a tutor to always be respectful to the children. On the other side you can be clear and strict about the behaviour of the children!

The Tutors are the heart of the camp. From the viewpoint of the organisation, the members of staff are the “kings” and "queens" of the camp. If the tutors feel good and they see the camp as a positive challenge, then the kids have a direct profit from it. Satisfied and well-informed tutors are a very important factors for a good camp and guarantee excited kids. Excited kids lead up to happy parents, who eventually send their kids to the camp again and also tell other parents about the positive experience (word of mouth – marketing).
To make sure the tutors get all the information they need and to get to know each other, there is a half-day tutor seminar with the following topics:
Getting to know each other
Getting to know the specialities of the house/ the camp
Getting to know what material we have
Answering all questions
On a camp generally there is a high trust in a tutor. There is trust that everybody gives his/her best and therefore controls and reports are not necessary. On the other hand the tutors have a lot of rolls to fill out, such as
Teacher, Educator
Animator
Manager/ Organizer/ Trouble-shooter
Nurse
The true salary of every tutor are all the unforgettable moments and impressions of a camp which are non-purchasable.
To achieve that it is very important that the tutors work together as a TEAM. They also have to respect and to support each other as much as possible. Working together makes any situations so much easier, so it is in everybody’s interest!
If there are problems within the team it is helpful to make a feedback round with 2 questions:
What do I appreciate from every person in the team?
What do I need from the team?
Reflect your behavior first and then try to work out solutions as a team!

At the same time the association FUN&LEARN has to take responsibility for the following people and has to respect their interests
Parents
English progress of the kids
Positive group experiences
Separation of girls and boys in the night/in the rooms
NO smoking and drinking of the kids
Staff of the Guesthouse
Behavior of the group while lunch and dinner
NO damage of the rooms, house
NO garbage in and around the house

Written texts of the kids: Take care that you correct them
Seminar room: keep it clean (with the kids) and create a good atmosphere
Collect the folders of the kids
LEAVE the (hole) puncher in the office!

Keep your Room tidy (Room Olympics!)
Separation of garbage
Use house shoes – keep the shoes in the shoe-room
Pillow and blanket: Keep it covered!
Be punctual at the lessons!
Lunch/Dinner: It starts when everybody is quiet! The tutors decide which table is allowed to get the food.
Stay in the dining room till the announcement!
Bring back FUN&LEARN – material (balls, baseball, …)
To draw on walls/furnisher is forbidden!
No stay in a foreign room when nobody is in this room.
NO alcohol consume, NO energy drinks, NO smoking
All mobile phones have to be in the office
Room time: 22.00
Rules for Lunch/Dinner

Tutors decide which table is allowed to get the food
Children clean the table after eating

The PARENTS should know what the kids did/learnt at the camp

The less technical devices you use - the better!!!
Use your ideas - let the children work, speak, draw, play - try to think that you just give them the environment - and THEY fill it up with their ideas, intentions, knowledge, ….

A Lesson day should include the following parts/units
5.1. GRAMMAR or VOCABULARY UNIT
The children work on a grammar topic
There a tons of grammar tests or quizzes (books, online, create something with the kids - let them make a quiz for the other group)
Build up vocabularies with a mind map
Repeat a grammar topic
The kids should get the impression that they really understand the language better.
5.2. TALKING and PLAYING UNIT
In this unit the kids should have fun:
English Activity, English Memory und other language games
Simon says, Prince of Paris, ...
Grammar and Talking Games
Games for Kids in English
Singing a Song, rewrite a Song, write a Song, English "Rapping", and so on
Tell a Joke!
Story-Telling: A Kid starts with a sentence. The next one adds a new sentence…
Role-game
It is important that the kids are ACTIVE and try to talk as much as possible!!
5.3. WRITING and READING UNIT
Depending on the level, the kids should read some sentences, paragraphs or pages in English. Use newspapers, magazines that are interesting for the kids. Further ideas
A Letter to the Management/ the neighbours/ to the Spanish kids…..
Letter to the Parents, Grandma, … let them write, read, exchange,…
Love-Letter (to tutor, dog, …)

In the afternoon and the evening we offer a spare time programme.
Here it is very important that the tutors bring in their ideas and creativity like

Playing “Capture the flag”
Decoration of the Disco
...
Like in the lessons:
BE AWARE that you just give a frame for the kids.
Give them a FRAME, so that they can be creative, express themselves, bring in their ideas…
For Example:
Announce at midday: “Tomorrow is the ‘The Big Show of the Artists’. All contributions are welcome. At least one contribution per room has to be shown. Solos are allowed, more than one contribution is also allowed!"
At night:
You can make a jury with Kids. It is always great if also the Tutors make a contribution… Little candies for those who perform…
